Meanwhile the forum-interview more or less became a tradition, and I´d like to keep to it. For the first time, it will combine questions from this forum and Facebook. You can place your question(s) right in this thread, you can send them via pm or email, or at Facebook.

B. in Roman Land vorkommt.

B. in Roman Land vorkommt.

A couple of questions I received via pm and/or Email. I allowed myself to shorten / summerize them.
1- Why is the forum-interview in german only this time?
A- The questions are in german, and so my answers are, simply because a lack of time at the moment. To translate a question is not that difficult, but to put my own words in english needs some more time, it´s something I can´t do as a sideline unfortunately. Whoever´s not able to understand german - just place your questions in english here, and I´ll do my best to answer in english, ´though it might take a bit more time compared to the german ones.
2- The bands you like/you are in touch with.
A- There are no such bands. I know, alot of bands use to cultivate contacts with other bands. I´ve been in touch with 2-3 bands in the past, but I am not anymore. Honestly, I simply do not care. This is not meant to sound extremely negative, it´s just a fact without a certain reason. I did not use to listen to many other music besides Falkenbach in the past, and meanwhile I do even less. I´ve better things to do, I guess. As I said, no certain reason, just a lack of interest. Every now and then, maybe 1-2 times a year, I might stumble upon a single song that catches me for a while. Not a band, not an album, mainly not even a full song, maybe just a single part. Sig:Ar:Tyr - Under the Mountain f.ex., one of those rare exceptions.

3- Why did you decide to keep yourself as a secret/mysterium?
A- Ok... First of all, I did not keep myself as a mysterium, I merely decided to shut the f**k up most of the time. No doubts, alot of people seem to enjoy it alot when they´re the centre of attention, and probably alot of bands do exist for no other reason than this. I am not that talkative in general, at least most of the time, no more and no less. I am probably not a showpiece-rockstar the way magazines love them, handy, talkative, and immediately available. I am not, and there´s no need to act as if, to fake it - to become everybody´s darling. It´s nothing I do or don´t do out of conviction, it´s solely the way I am, what I am, who I am. I am neither a secret, nor a mysterium, just someone you (and most other people) don´t know.

Maybe a little too "personal" questions but... 1.Quorton once mentioned that royalties he gets from Bathory's music are enough for him to live without working. Are Falkenbach's royalties enough for living without a full time job? 2.What was actually the story behind VARGAS project ? 3.What's the name of a painting used as a front cover on "...Magni Blandinn..."? It's incredibly beautiful, especially on vinyl version.

It's incredibly beautiful, especially on vinyl version. No, nothing too personal so far. 1) As far as I can remember, there were ca. 1.5 million sold Bathory albums *before* both Nordland-albums. I am more than sure that´s enough to live from for one single person, no doubts. All Falkenbach albums together, down to the present day, did sell a couple of percent of what Bathory just sold untill maybe 2003 or 2004. Bathory was, and still is a high-selling trademark, backed by a financially extremely potent label, with an outstanding distribution network and professional business alignment. While Bathory still sells more albums within 3-6 months, than Falkenbach sold during the last nearly 20 years, I am living in my own small flat, spending most of the time with home-health care of my parents. Moneywise, there´s need for a job, absolutely, but there´s no time for it. As I do not claim any money from the goverment, nor do I get money for the care for my parents, Falkenbach is the only thing I get some money from. And trust me, usually people getting state welfare do get more money than I have. I am able to pay my rent and health insurance contributions, that´s it. The money I get allows me to spend most of the time for my parents, but as I am not Bathory, it´s a struggle most of the time. 2) a- It´s not a Falkenbach release/recording. b- I don´t give a fvck about it. 3) I really can´t remember, sorry Maybe someone else of you people knows, if so, just post it here.

Well, the money/promo aspects is what I really hate in novadays musical scene. I mean I have no problem that label's primary goal is to earn money but 20+ years ago they at least used to carry a little about the listener. I remember back in early 90s Quorthon doing interviews on MTV as well as early Salem, the band nobody knew about and just released a debut on a small indie "Morbid Rec.", playing live on Headbangers Ball. Even this guy from Nargaroth speaking in some Oprah-like TV-show for housewives Today if you're not under Sony/Warner/Atlantic etc protection there's now chance you'll be known to a big audience. I remember showing some Falkenbach's songs to 10-15 friends who're very little or completely not into rock music and they ALL were like "Wow! Why is he not on MTV as his music is 1000 times better than all of this rotating rock nuts". I guess big labels don't want to take any small risks now, as the sales thanks to mp3 are going down, and investing only in those who're 100% can bring a maximum of money, like this idiot with "horse dance" who somehow contrived to put all the B-category cliches of 90s' dance music into his stupid song.

As for me, I have all original albums (as well as later represses of "..Ok Nefna..", "Heralding" & "...En Their Medh...") on vinyl except clear version of first presss "Heralding - The Fireblade" and surely will buy every future release as Falkenbach had/is/will always be one of my main musical influences though now I play completely non-metal/rock. God, my first band in 2001 was called "Laeknishendr"! Nothing more to say is need, I guess

Well, to me there is nothing wrong if people earn loads of money with their bands. It´s ok to run a band under a commercial focus, to make it grow as big as possible, and to make a living from it. It´s alot of work, a full time job. If you want your band to evolve in such a way, go for it. But I don´t want it that way. Throughout the years, there were a couple of chances to sign to bigger, well known labels with Falkenbach. But something like that does not only mean you´ll get more, but you´ll have to give more, it means a hell of obligations. Fixed periods for releases - you have to come up with new albums within a given time. You´ve to play the festivals which are of supreme importance promotional-wise, you´ve to play the tours of course, you´ve to be available for all the magazines your label considers as important. You´ve to do whatever is necessary to keep up the interest of the people, to not drown in the mass of other bands trying to do exactly what you´re doing... Don´t get me wrong here, please. I am not talking about the old "true" topic here. As I said, if someone wants to make a living from his music, I am fine with it. That´s what music is today, a business. If you want your own small piece of the cake, you´ve to work for it, you´ve to accept the rules. That´s fine. But I am not such a person, I simply not am. You know, so many bands popped up from nowhere throughout the last about 10 years, growing bigger and bigger, now being a leading force in the black/pagan/heathen/viking/folk/humpa/reenactment/whatthefvckever - metal scene. People are craving for...well, for images, for actors. And that´s what you get - Showmen. And here we´re starting to get involved in the only problem I´ve got with all this: the discrepancy between appearance and reality. The bands/musicians people adore, for being true, for being really bad and nasty guys, for being honest and faithful pagans/satanists, for being true-norwegian-dontknowwhat ... It´s a fvcking soap-opera... People full of enthusiasm, idealism, now adoring showmen... Once strong, worlwide, now misguided and mislead, worldwide. Sometimes it makes me sick, sometimes it makes me sad... But it will not make me change myself or Falkenbach.

I wasn´t asked about those releases, I wasn´t just even informed about them. I do not know how they look like. And there´re more things like that. Friendly enough - a label like No Colours is still asking for my permission, ´though he does not even had to. Steffen still does not release anything without talking to me first - after nearly 20 years. Same goes for Prophecy btw, no pressure, but support. God, my first band in 2001 was called "Laeknishendr"!

What kind of flute you used for the song "Vanadis"?
A- I really do not remember exactly. It´s been a mixture of maybe 3 or 4 synth-sounds, one of them was a shakuhachi, one probably a piccolo flute...mixed to one sound. Wasn´t exactly what I was looking for back then...
