We beg your indulgence. Someone somewhere mentioned Falkenbach after a query. I happened to hear track 2 on Ok Nefna... as my first sortie. For some reason I broke down as the Norse tinged melody and harmony was perfect and godly. So I took the time to register (on friggin dial up) to voice my appreciation for the effort. My heart needed that lift.
Tho I've been into black metal since the early 90's, Scaldic BM is new to me yet can only be destined...
I am very much into runes and the rest...or rist.
Being a musician myself, I'll have to say this (release anyway) specific genre's plodding rhythm (in places) may work counterproductive to the overall effect. When the creativity is flowing - variation - it works. Otherwise, the monotonous thump makes one want to click it forward.
Nevertheless, the inspired parts truly get the endorphins up - via ancestral genetics?).
My obvious question is where to find more of this heart tweaking tribal style!!
Btw, I'm also in f**king Darkspace. Another world and we are in mystical ecstacy with it. Long live black metal....
My less than obvious question is what might be the few rules concerning the structure of "Scaldic music" be. We know there was scaldic poetry....
I did read years ago that in ancient Norse music the third was important. But that may be a little too esoteric. But any direction in how to craft this sound with guitar and vox would be nice.
What is the scale or modes used?
I actually have the Poetic Edda which has it's own unique (which has been passed down and still present today) sense of timing or meter....
Cool artwork to however and that's as important. This is a friggin religion after all!
Best Regards und Vielen Dank, Mark (massachusetts)
ps. other bands I love; ya, Darkspace.... Kataxia (what little they have), Nightbringer (ditto and their full length sucked unfortunately, relying way too much on their unique formula. but their first split cd was godly, in sinister fashion), the best of Hecate Enthroned, same with Crimson Moon, Evilfeast = awesome, Argar, Blut aus Nord, ya, Emperor, Krohm, Abyssos's "Together We Summon The Dark" you get the picture... quality stuff.
I'm older btw so also still like the classics such as Blue Oyster Cult and that kinda thing. I've been following the true metal current all this time!! Seems to have gone underground in the late 80's.....
Ach, maybe I can ask here. Where might I find tracks or cd by Son of the Blind (Darkspace "side project")?
