I really like them. Actually I'm related to Snorri Sturluson, like every icelanders. But that book touched me. Got me really interested in the ancient believe. But I haven't read more about it, but on the net once i read something about the berserkers, really interesting.

I somehow managed to confuse, I was talking about Snorra-Edda. But I have read some of the others, at that time i read them I wasn't thrilled. I have read Egils Saga, Eiríks Saga, Gísla and many more... Some guys are working and probably finishing soon a cartoon from Gretti's Saga. They try to follow as best as they can the descriptions of places in the book and do everything exactly as said in the book but have to fyll in the blanks, of course.

It's very hard for me to read the Eddas and Sagas cause I need to translate every part in my mother language, but this does not bother me maybe takes more time but this is a good way to remember every detail of what I read...in the main future I am waiting by post the "Orkneyinga Saga " and really can't wait about it!

I saw a few weeks ago a documentary about vikings. Some researchers think they have reached the island Brooklyn, where they started building up some small settlements. NewYourk City founded by Vikings!?! Some even say they have reached Mexico. But i think this is a bit extreme, whell maybe they've reached it, but didn't live there any longer. How should have norsemen, from tundra areas, survived in tropical lands full of rainforests without beeing properly prepared? Let's be honest No, but still, this has been a folk which discovered most of the world than other ones. Also reached countries in asia, and traded with the people.

I read Edda the first time in the 1995, sometimes I blow away some dust from it, readin' it again. It's a wonderful opus, every tale from the creation and so on it's unique and so magical. I live in a country where unfortunately we've had another book....the holy bible Luckily I've found Sturluson's Edda

I have read the Edda, too, and I really was impressed how close the norse belief and attitude came to my attitude. Too bad that society does not know about alternate ways of living or does follow this ways, but not know their origin.

There are two different Eddas, the "Lieder-Edda" and the "Snorra-Edda" (also Prosa-Edda) The first one is about all the gods, the heroes and the Apocalypse. And the Snorra-Edda is about the poems and poetry of this time.
I'm reading now the book "Germanic Heroes- and Gods-sagas" by Felix Dahn and his wife Therese Dahn. (Well, I don't know whether the English name of the book is correct, in German it's "Germanische Helden- und Göttersagen") This is a wonderful book about all the gods and also "Ragnarök", the Apocalypse. Dahn writes about the meaning of all those stories and how some sagas are changed by the Christian religion.
Sometimes I wish I lived in a time where all people believed in Wotan and Donar and etc... :-)

I have read some of the Sagas, here in Iceland we read them in school but I've also read some in my free time like, Landnáma, Laxdæla Saga, Gísla Saga Súrssonar, Eiríks Saga. I can almost understand the original text because Icelandic is basically Old Norse. Sagas in english but also the originals: sagadb.org/

Anyone read any of the Sagas and Eddas? if so what do you think of them? Yes off course, they are the basis of our religion ASATRU or as I prefer ALTE SITTE. If you like, have a look at my blog about independent real ASATRU: altesitte-asatru.blogspot.com/
